Attaching Files to Conversations

You can attach files to your conversations so the AI can read their contents and answer questions about them.

How to attach a file

  1. In the message area, click the + button (or drag and drop a file).
  2. Select one or more files from your device.
  3. The file appears as a small chip above the message box.
  4. Type your question (for example, "Can you summarise this document?") and send.

Supported file types

LanJAM can read text from many common file formats:

  • Documents — PDF, Word (.docx), plain text (.txt), Markdown (.md)
  • Data files — CSV, JSON, XML, YAML
  • Code files — most programming languages
  • Web files — HTML, CSS

How the AI uses your files

When you attach a file, LanJAM extracts the text content and makes it available to the AI. This means the AI can answer questions about what is in the file, summarise it, or help you work with the information.

The AI does not see images inside documents — it can only read the text content.

Managing attached files

To see all files linked to a conversation:

  1. Click the three-dot menu in the conversation header.
  2. Select Attached files.

From here you can see all files, download them, or remove files you no longer need.

Good to know

  • There is a file size limit (usually 25 MB per file).
  • If a file cannot be read (for example, a scanned PDF that is actually just an image), you will see a warning.
  • Files are linked to the specific conversation you attach them to.
  • Upload progress is shown for larger files.
  • The same file can be reused across different conversations without uploading it again.
